There are two ways you can apply for adoption; through your local authority or an independent adoption agency. It is up to you what you prefer and people have different reasons for choosing their local authority or an agency. Hear from adopters on their experiences of the process in our ‘Families’ section.
Independent Adoption Agencies are not for profit organisations approved by Ofsted. They work closely with local authority adoption teams across the country in placing children, and providing support for life. Independent Adoption Agencies working in partnership with Adopt North West are Caritas, Adoption Matters, and After Adoption.
Local authorities and independent agencies are not in competition with each other.
